The 2012 Motor Show raised an amazing £7800!
The 2012 Motor Show was blessed with overcast but fine weather for
the first half and a bright sunny late afternoon thereafter. The range
of classic and club cars is what makes the show so open, inclusive
and friendly. There’s many a car that isn’t vintage or
perhaps even a classic, but will nevertheless bring back golden memories
such as the first family car people remember when growing up. Of course,
there are some incredible cars too, sometimes lovingly customised
such as the VW Beetle with a Subaru Impreza engine hiding under the
gleaming Golf paint-work. However, the star car of the day was a fabulously
restored Ford Mustang which not only won Best American but won Best
in Show, pipping a pristine E-Type Jaguar. Special thanks must go
to Jason Barlow, editor-at-large for the BBC’s Top Gear Magazine,
who was a judge and our special guest. He’d had an incredibly
busy week, having just returned from abroad but still found time for
us.
The Show was very much a family day out so the under 18s enjoyed themselves
with Art and craft tents, a reading tepee, Bouncy Castle and face
painting and this year the extremely popular Gladiator Jousting which
even adults wanted a go on. Many a teenager got a pleasant surprise
once they realised that they too could drive one of Benson’s
School of Motoring dual control cars…as long as they could reach
the pedals! The driving simulator, one of only two in the country,
was also much in demand
